Los Angeles National Adoption Day
The 18th annual National Adoption Day in Los Angeles will be celebrated at the Edmund D. Edelman Children's Court in Monterey Park on Friday, November 17, 2017. The Los Angeles Juvenile Court, Department of Children and Family Services, Alliance for Children's Rights, and Public Counsel, alongside dozens of volunteer attorneys and law firms, will finalize adoptions for over 200 children in foster care and celebrate forever families. There will be a press conference at 12:30 p.m. on the 5th floor of the courthouse led by Juvenile Court Presiding Judge Michael Levanas. Speakers include Judge Michael Nash (ret), Executive Director of the Office of Child Protection, Alliance for Children's Rights CEO Laurie Rubiner, Public Counsel CEO Margaret Morrow, DCFS Adoption Division Chief Daniel Svedas, and Omar Fadil-Villaescusa, a non-minor dependent (adult) adoptee sharing his personal adoption story. Adoption hearings will occur beginning at 1:30 p.m. There will be refreshments, balloons, arts and crafts, book giveaway, and toys for the children.
