Nia Vardalos on National Adoption Day - KATU.com

Oscar-nominated actress Nia Vardalos joined us to share a cause near and dear to her heart-- adoption. She and her husband, Ian Gomez, adopted a 3 year old girl from foster care in 2008. She's an advocate for US foster care adoption and National Adoption Day. This year it's November 20, 2010. On that day, child advocates, policymakers, judges and lawyers work without charge to finalize the adoptions of 4500 kids in foster care.

Save the Date: National Adoption Day Set for November 20

LOS ANGELES – National Adoption Day 2010 will be held on Saturday, November 20. Celebrated across the United States, more than 350 community events are held each year to finalize the adoptions of children in foster care and celebrate adoptive families.

In all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam, the widespread cause will include events ranging from courtroom adoptions to local celebrations.

10th Anniversary of National Adoption Day Celebrates 30,000 Children in Foster Care Finding Permanent Homes

More than 4,500 children adopted from foster care this year celebrated finding their forever families during the 10th Annual National Adoption Day on November 21. After a decade, the number of children in foster care adopted on National Adoption Day totals nearly 30,000. Los Angeles hosted a celebration with Actress Nia Vardalos.
