Los Angeles will celebrate the 22nd annual National Adoption Day with its second “Virtual” National Adoption Day at the Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court in Monterey Park, California. On this day, judicial officers from the Los Angeles Superior Court will hold virtual adoption hearings for over 150 children in Los Angeles County foster care as part of National Adoption Day 2021. Families will appear via video to finalize their adoptions with a live streamed opening ceremony and gift cards for families donated by L.A. Rotary Club.
Juvenile Dependency Court Presiding Judge Akemi Arakaki will lead off the virtual Press Conference at 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 20th, followed by remarks from The Honorable Congresswoman Karen Bass, The Honorable L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis, Alliance for Children’s Rights President & CEO Jennifer Braun, Public Counsel President & CEO Monica Ramirez Almadani, L.A. County DCFS Director Bobby D. Cagle, actress/child advocate Danica McKellar on behalf of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, and an adoptive family. Virtual adoptions for 158 children/105 families are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 20. A pool camera will be permitted at a pre-selected adoptive family’s home for coverage as the family’s virtual adoption ceremony takes place. The children adopted on this day are receiving gift cards for their family celebrations through a generous donation from the Los Angeles Rotary Club.
The Los Angeles National Adoption Day is a collaboration of the Los Angeles Superior Court, Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, the Alliance for Children’s Rights and Public Counsel Law Center.
