Los Angeles will celebrate the 22nd annual National Adoption Day with its second “Virtual” National Adoption Day at the Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court in Monterey Park, California. On this day, judicial officers from the Los Angeles Superior Court will perform virtual adoption hearings for over 100 children in Los Angeles County foster care as part of the 2021 National Adoption Day. Families will appear remotely via video to complete their adoptions.
Presiding Judge Akemi Arakaki will lead off a virtual news conference at 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 20th, which will include Alliance for Children’s Rights President & CEO Jennifer Braun, Public Counsel’s President & CEO Monica Ramirez Almadani, L.A. County DCFS Director Bobby D. Cagle, an adoptive family, and special guests TBD. More information on how to view the virtual news conference will be forthcoming.
Virtual adoptions are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Nov. 20. A pool camera will be allowed at a pre-selected adoptive family’s home on National Adoption Day to film while the virtual adoption ceremony takes place.
The Los Angeles National Adoption Day is a collaboration of the Los Angeles Superior Court, Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, the Alliance for Children’s Rights and Public Counsel.
